Education abroad

Norwegian primary and lower secondary schools abroad can apply for accreditation under the Independent Schools Act. The list of accredited primary, lower and upper secondary schools can be found on the County Governor of Oslo and Viken’s website. There are accredited schools in Europe and Africa. The Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training is the supervisory authority for this field and is also the body that allocates funding to the accredited schools.

School psychology services at Norwegian schools abroad

Under the Independent Schools Act, all students are entitled to special education and school psychology services. The County Governor of Oslo and Viken is responsible for the running of this service, and the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training is the relevant administrative appeals body. School psychology services abroad are available for students in primary and lower and upper secondary education alike. Children who are not yet of compulsory school age (pre-school children) do not have a statutory right to such psychology services.

On the County Governor of Oslo and Viken’s website, you can find more information on school psychology services abroad.

Grants and support schemes for students abroad

There is special support available for pursuing upper secondary education in several locations around the world. The Norwegian Centre for International Co-operation in Education is responsible for promoting international co-operation at each stage of education.
